You guys are so awesome. I'm so impressed with your love of Nia -- and your willingness to share so honestly. It's very inspiring to me. I think what you all have spoken of are probably fairly universal 'wishes.' One of the things I learned from the martial arts and dance arts portions of Niability is the joy of dedication, of (dare I say it?)discipline . World-class martial artists and dancers go to class every day, going through the basics over and over again. So, we've got it easy...we just find a class, go, and Feel the Joy. But it DOES take a discipline to get there...I know that one :-). Letting the Pearls come...that's a great one, too. Nia is always teaching me (over and over) the importance of relaxing into my center to let what I need emerge in its own time. Sounds simple, except for that 'relaxing' part...that can be HARD. And I certainly have a lot more to learn about Sensory IQ (which I think is, in many ways, synonymous with The Teaching of Moshe Feldenkrais)! That could be just one of the many life-time endeavors involved in truly mastering The Nia Technique. And Eva, about the counting thing? Don't worry, it will come. One day you'll be teaching a class and realize that you're just moving and teaching as one with the music. :-)

Thanks for all your comments, you guys. Keep 'em coming!

I love your passion for Nia! Niability is a great creative endeavor. If I could do one thing to make teaching Nia more enjoyable is to let go of the counting. I am very right brained and counting and memorizing the forms in the choreography sometimes takes away from my enjoyment of being in the moment with Nia. I teach two classes a week and I take two classes a week. When I take the classes I am joy...I am free...I am sensation. But when I teach Nia I get bogged down in the delivery and don't feel the freedom of my body's natural way/time. I am a recent graduate in White Belt (Aug.2009). Maybe it gets easier but if I could do one thing it would be to flow more and not worry about mistakes/perfection. I LOVE Nia so much...I love the energy I receive and the connection to the universe and limitless movement possibilities. My body loves Nia.

Well...this is very exciting to discover. Niability!! Wow I love it. And I'm inspired by it/you as well to continue to delve into my exploration of movement and sensation through Nia and other movement forms. Okay so to answer your question... one thing I could do to improve my Nia experience, my Niability would be to give more time (be more patient) for the pearls to arrive, and to trust them when they do arrive.

Oh..oh..oh..and now I have another one coming up.. :-) and that would be to increase my sensory IQ so as to notice how I am moving when I do Nia that causes my right knee to become inflamed.

Okay I'll stop now 'cause you did only ask 'if there was ONE thing"....

Thanks for creating this and offering this space. Wish I could attend one of your workshops but it's too far away from where I am (northern arctic) and where I will be (southern Mexico). Would you travel to do a workshop?

The one thing I could do would be simply to go to more classes, even if I have to "take a class with Debbie & Carlos" via video since I cannot always make it to a local class.

It was good to meet you at Green Belt. Niability sounds great!
